What’s it like working with a book writing coach? USA Today Bestselling Author Megan Gorman talks about what the experience was like writing her book and partnering with Amelia Forczak for coaching.

Hi, I’m Megan Gorman, and this is my book, All The President’s money, How the Men who Governed America Governed Their Money. And I have to say, it’s amazing to hold this in my hands, because without Amelia, I would not have been able to get my book to the level that it is today. And when I was first starting to write a book, I thought I could just simply write a book. After all, I had a column at Forbes. I was a pretty strong writer, and I understood my topic pretty well. But there’s one thing about being a writer, and there is another thing about writing a book, and writing a book requires a lot of different skills that I didn’t have at the time. And so when I started to talk to people and show them what I’d written, one of these people in publishing said to me, great concept. You need help sculpting it. Let me introduce you to Amelia Forczak. And that’s where Amelia was so amazing. So first of all, Amelia is not a history person, and I was worried about that at first, but it turned out that was a great asset for us, because I felt strongly about writing my own book, and so I would turn, you know, first of all, Amelia and I did a lot of exercises, and we talked a lot about the stories I wanted to tell, and we together worked on, how should I shape this book? And once we came out with that, then I started to write chapters and send them to her, and she would come back to me, and we would have sessions, and she would have notes like, draw this out a bit more, and as non history person, she would say, I don’t know what you’re referencing here, which is very helpful. And she really told me what I should keep and cut and how to sort of drive the framework of the narrative that I was trying to create, and honestly, I was so blessed to have her. And so this book, which, as by the way, has gotten good reviews by both Wall Street Journal and airmail, really benefited in a way that I cannot describe from having Amelia and her book coaching and really just encouraging me to keep going and to keep writing.
